Unitedcom SUPERStreaming is based on the modern technology called
IP Multicast that, combined with the traditional
Unicast transmission, allow the realization of the best platform for audio and video files distribution on the Internet.
IP Multicast technology is an up-to-date way of data transmission, that uses on the Internet the model of broadcasting normally used in radio and TV broadcasting, whose signal is produced by a station and received by all the devices tuned on that frequencies.
IP Multicasttransfers only a single IP package to a group of clients instead of sending several copies.
The main benefit is a more efficient data transfer on the network, that makes a better audio and video broadcast possible. The need for Internet band doesn’t grow proportionally to the number of the connected users.
Unitedcom Unicast technology allow the realization of live and recording broadcasting, that can be viewed by all Internet users in the world. The number of simultaneous users depends on the set bandwidth. So, for example, if ten users view at the same time a 100 Kbps coded transmission, 1 Mbps (10 x 100 Kbps) of Unicast connectivity is required. Availability of Unitedcom Unicast band is actually unlimited, because it is constantly controlled and an automatic upgrade is triggered as soon as the usage reaches 80%, thanks to an agreement of peering with major national and international providers.
Unitedcom Unicast technology allow the realization of live and recording broadcasting, that can be viewed at the same time by a nearly unlimited number of customers of Wind-Infostrada Internet access services (at the moment about 20 million). Today the only limit of this technology is that there is no Multicast interconnection among national and international providers, so that it is actually effective only inside the single networks that use it.
